Your travel reading list: sorted. Lady Driver maps the journeys of 12 women from poor, marginalized communities who have transformed their lives by taking up the challenge of becoming women drivers. As the women featured painstakingly claim a relationship with the road, it translates into claims for identity, for dignity, and for a livelihood.
A social enterprise in India
The Lady Driver books are individual accounts of some of the women that have been empowered through the Women on Wheels Program.åÊ Our partnership with Azad Foundation (the non-profit that runs Women on Wheels), has helped the organization cover approximately 50% of their business, and we're the first tourism operator to contract their services. Planeterra has also donated a grant to purchase 3 additional fleet vehicles for them when they first launched their business and they were looking to scale.
